Third-party source code

Obtain the matching sources and rebuild replaceable native libraries.

Find your version

The Source code for this version button in About → Licenses opens the matching archive. You can also find it among the assets of the corresponding public release. Match both the version and build number; do not substitute the latest upstream sources.

Inside the archive

The archive contains the exact public RawKit, ImcodecNative and dbus packages, codec source archives, build-time patches in the package recipes, notices and rebuilding instructions. A manifest records versions and SHA-256 checksums. Focale application sources are separate.

Rebuild a library

Install Python 3.12+, CMake 3.25+ and your platform’s C/C++ build tools. Unpack the archive, run the first command, edit the library under work/, then build the desired bridge. See README.txt for architecture and compiler options.

python3 rebuild.py unpack --work work
python3 rebuild.py imcodec_native --work work
python3 rebuild.py rawkit --work work

Use your modified library

Close Focale and replace the corresponding library in a writable copy of the application, keeping its filename and C interface compatible. Keep the original installation for recovery.

On macOS, replace_macos.py creates a separate locally signed app with the rebuilt library. The official app keeps its signing policy. The local copy is no longer a notarized Focale release.

For Microsoft Store and Flatpak installations, follow the archive’s instructions for a writable copy outside the managed installation. Preserve the matching runtime and architecture.

Codec patents

Software licenses and patent rights are separate. The notices and source archive do not grant a blanket patent license, in particular for HEVC/HEIC.
