Camera Raw (.fcameraraw)

A complete development recipe with its embedded profiles and local masks.

Reviewed against the application source on 5 October 2026. Focale is in active development; available commands and published packages may differ by build.

Use in the application

In the Camera Raw preset bar, Load accepts a Focale file or Camera Raw XMP; Export saves the current native recipe. The plus button still saves a named local preset.

File structure

settings contains the complete native recipe: tone, colour, curve, detail, optics, geometry, calibration and local masks. Optical coefficients and a custom RGB ICC output profile are embedded. Optional fields follow the canonical omission rules in the reference.

Validation and limits

Maximum 24 MiB, including at most 16 MiB of decoded ICC data, 16 local masks, 4096 brush points in total and four geometry guides. Missing required fields, unknown values, invalid profiles or out-of-range settings reject the file without silently changing it.

Photoshop interchange

Camera Raw XMP imports its supported fields over the current settings. Native import restores the entire recipe without rematching its optical profile. Camera Raw Filter normalizes sensor-only settings for raster use. Native export does not promise identical Adobe rendering.
