Gradients (.fgradient)
Colour and alpha stops, midpoints and interpolation presets.
Reviewed against the application source on 5 October 2026. Focale is in active development; available commands and published packages may differ by build.
Use in the application
The shared gradient editor imports and exports its user catalogue. Choose a preset to change the current gradient. Changing a catalogue entry does not replace gradients already stored in documents.
File structure
UTF-8 JSON with an explicit format tag and version. The current reader and writer use version 1. The example shows the library envelope; the full reference describes the complete value schemas.
Each presets entry has id, name, optional groupPath and gradient. gradient contains interpolation and ordered stops with position, packed ARGB color and optional midpoint. Native files retain the authored gradient values.

}Validation and limits
Maximum: 16 MiB and 4,096 entries. A gradient has 2–256 strictly ordered stops spanning 0 to 1. Unknown interpolation values, duplicate ids or malformed stops reject the complete file.
Photoshop interchange
GRD is import-only for supported custom solid gradients. Use .fgradient for native backup and exchange; importing a Photoshop file does not guarantee every gradient variant is supported.
